Galliford Try Partnerships has signed a deal with Homes England which will see it build more than 300 homes in Sandymoor, Runcorn.

The strategic partnership will deliver in excess of 230 new two-, three- and four-bedroom family houses to be sold on the open market and a 100-bedroom retirement scheme on behalf of Halton Housing.

Brendan Blythe, managing director for Galliford Try Partnerships, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Homes England to accelerate the delivery of much-needed new homes in Runcorn.

“We share Homes England’s ambition to help more people access better homes in the right places.

“With a proven track record of delivery we look forward to playing our part in making this a reality for the community in Runcorn and beyond.”

Galliford Try Partnerships, a housebuilding, regeneration and construction specialist, will begin work on the project immediately with the planning application due to be submitted this month.

Sandymoor is a key development site in the borough of Halton.

First developed in the late 1980s, the initial phases have comprised of suburban house styles, predominantly two-storey detached dwellings.

Subject to planning approval, Galliford Try Partnerships’ scheme will be built on land to the east of Village Street, bridging the gap between two new residential developments to the North and South.

In addition to the 230 houses, a 100 apartment Extracare scheme, owned by Halton Housing, will also include a bistro which will be open to the public as well as residents.

Paul Mullane, Halton Housing’s director of development and growth, said: “We are delighted to respond to local housing demand in Runcorn by providing these high-quality homes for the over-55s.

“This will be our third Extracare scheme following the development of our hugely successful Barkla Fields and Naughton Fields schemes.

The project will not only deliver new homes, but also jobs and other opportunities for the community of Sandymoor.”

The Sandymoor proposals will provide new homes for first-time buyers, growing families and older people, extending the current housing offer within the area.

Modern methods of construction will speed up the build with the first homes due to be ready for occupation in 2020 and the project due to complete in late 2024.

Homes England is the Government’s housing accelerator. It aims to increase the number and speed of new homes being built across England including affordable homes and homes for market, sale or rent.

In addition to the Runcorn scheme, Galliford Try Partnerships will build 360 homes in Redcar, 116 in Cannock and 60 in Dorset on land acquired from Homes England.

It is also working on more than 70 projects across the UK with a wide range of long-term partners including local authorities and registered social housing providers.
