North West homebuilder, Harvey Homes and The NHR Group (NHRG) of Companies, has appointed a former board director of The Emerson Group to complement its already experienced management team and support the company in its vision to achieve sustained growth.

With more than 35 years in the property business and four decades as a practising lawyer, Paul Burgess equips Harvey Homes and NHRG with an in-depth knowledge of planning, commercial and domestic property law and compliance/governance issues. He also brings the teams’ combined property and business experience to more than a century.

A property development and investment professional, Paul spent many years in a main board director role at The Emerson Group, one of the UK’s largest privately-owned property development and investment companies.

He joins following a two-year contract as chief operating officer at De Trafford, where he has helped shape the strategic direction, structure and operations of the business.

Paul Burgess

Today, Paul heads up his own business advisory company, Adra Business Services, primarily serving the property and construction industries.

Thomas Harvey-Ratcliffe, director and co-founder of Bowdon-based Harvey Homes, said: “It’s fantastic to have Paul on board. He has a proven track record of growth and a strategic mindset that perfectly complements our already, well-experienced team of property experts.”

Nicholas Harvey Ratcliffe, director of the NHR Group of Companies, said: “For some 25 years my focus has been on commercial development and investment, one may say, at the sharp end of the wedge. Mike Kennedy joined Thomas on the residential side of the business 12 months ago and, in light of the success, it was so important to provide additional support.

“Paul brings strategic guidance and governance and has a proven track record with highly successful property companies. I am very confident with Mike and Paul’s support we can create something special and which we will all be proud of.”

Paul Burgess said: “I am delighted to have been asked to take up an executive consultancy position with the Harvey Homes team and NHRG and relish the opportunity to help drive their growth and build upon their established principles to create new homes without compromise and a commercial property business that will be around for generations.”

“The one-to-one service provided by Gorvins is dedicated to this approach – providing peerless legal advice and stability for clients at a time when they are experiencing great change and uncertainty. Hilary Meredith Solicitors in Wilmslow has appointed Invictus Gold medallist and high-ranking military solicitor, Natalie

Natalie Robinson

Robinson as head of its Armed Forces Compensation Scheme department.

Natalie provided specialist military legal support to the British Army for 12 years, reaching the rank of Major, before being medically discharged in 2015 after an injury on duty led to complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and the partial amputation of her leg.

She served in war zones including Iraq and Afghanistan, performing a range of crucial tasks, from dealing with offences at court martials to advising senior commanders on rules of engagement during operations abroad. Natalie also trained and advised officers on discipline, administrative action and operational law.

A keen sportswoman, Natalie took part in the very first Invictus Games following her injury, winning a gold medal for her country in wheelchair rugby at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

Natalie has first-hand experience of the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme – which provides compensation to military service personnel injured on or after April 6, 2005 – having successfully pursued her own claim after injury.

As a Solicitor-Advocate she is qualified to represent clients in higher courts, meaning she can appear for service personnel at appeals to the Armed Forces Compensation Tribunal.

Natalie, who qualified as a solicitor in 1994, said: “Having been through so much over the last few years I know just how challenging life after service can be – particularly when dealing with a life-changing injury.

“I am absolutely committed to fighting for the rights of service personnel and veterans.”

She added: “Without the right legal advice, the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme is a daunting prospect.

“The scheme itself is not fit for purpose. Service personnel, who have made huge sacrifices to serve their country, are often under-compensated and abandoned.

“If the evidence is not presented in the right way, perfectly valid claims are rejected, often leaving them in a desperate physical, emotional and financial state. We are here to provide the right legal advice and representation from the earliest possible stage.”

Hilary Meredith, chair of Hilary Meredith Solicitors, said: “There isn’t a solicitor anywhere in the country who is better qualified than Natalie to head up our Armed Forces Compensation Scheme team.

“After a distinguished career in the Army, she has huge expertise in military law.”
