Work completes on Manchester’s “most sustainable building”

Refurbishment work has been completed on a development which has been described as Manchester’s most sustainable building.

FORE Partnership – a European property firm – has reached practical completion of its Grade A office building Windmill Green.

The building is on Mount Street in the heart of Manchester’s city centre.

The scheme includes state-of-the-art innovative solar PV panels, Manchester’s first scooter fleet for tenants, and an expansive living wall to help neutralise carbon emissions and improve health and wellbeing.

Basil Demeroutis, Managing Partner of FORE, said: “We are very pleased to reach this important milestone, three years after purchasing what was a derelict building.

“This legacy from another time has now been turned into the most relevant and engaging workspace in the city.

“The scheme’s offering is unlike anything else on the market currently in Manchester, and we have been extremely pleased with the attention it has attracted from high calibre occupiers – who share a common philosophy of being part of something bigger.”

Architect tp bennett led on the building design, which includes a rooftop terrace with its own apiary and views over the city, as well as living walls made up of thousands of individual plants and ultra energy-efficient LED lighting.

Mr Demeroutis added: “The team has worked hard to create a space which is ultra-sustainable and high-spec, but which also encourages creativity, collaboration, and a sense of community. We are excited to now be able to showcase this to the market.”

The building is next to St. Peter’s Square in the city centre.

In addition to the BREEAM rating, it has also secured a WiredScore “Platinum” certification.
