Digital firm returns to its roots with gaming label

Macclesfield digital engineering company, Blue Beck has gone back to its gaming origins with the launch of Curioso, an independent games publishing label.

While gaming has always been at the heart of Blue Beck, a high client demand for projects such as commercial applications and specialist connected services has kept the team busy and not allowed much time for game creation.

Now, having grown from a two-man-band to a team of 50, Blue Beck says it is home to some of the industry’s most talented gaming professionals, making this the perfect time to launch its own publishing label.

Managing director, Peter Scott, said: “Going back to our gaming roots is exciting for us – we have been focusing more on the commercial side of business – building up our technology and portfolio, all whilst trying to make games.

“We’ve never really had the resources to properly publish our games until now and we’re in a great position to make it happen with some of the best talent the industry has to offer working with us.”

Blue Beck boasts an impressive collective back catalogue with staff having developed games for some of the world’s biggest licences, including Marvel, EA, LEGO, Hasbro and Activision as well as producing mobile and web-based games such as Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and Spiderman Webslinger.

Curioso plans to bring all this experience together to publish a collection of immersive mobile games.

Heading up Curioso is Johanna Vuorela, who said: “We’re thrilled to showcase the incredible, diverse talent of Blue Beck through memorable games that will truly spark the players’ curiosity.

“From a horror puzzle to a fun exploration into the world of art, we want to make games that offer a unique experience with every play.”

Curioso is set to release its first game later this Summer.
