Road closures will affect Macclesfield traffic for more than a month

Cheshire East Council is to carry out essential maintenance on the footbridge crossing the Silk Road, Macclesfield, starting July 24.

Road closures will be in place until August 30.

In order for the work to be carried out safely, road closures will be put in place as follows:

Phase 1: July 24 to August 11, southbound carriageway closed between Flash Lane roundabout and Brockhurst roundabout between 9.30am and 15.30pm.

One of two lanes will be open during off-peak hours only between July 24, and August 11. A signed diversion route will be in place via: B5091 London Road, A538 Manchester Road, A538 Beech Lane and A537 Hibel Road.

Phase 2: August 12 to August 30, the northbound carriageway will be closed between Brockhurst roundabout and Flash Lane roundabout from 9.30am until 15.30pm.

One of two lanes will be open during off-peak hours between August 12, and August 30. A signed diversion route will be in place via: A537 Hibel Road, A538 Beech Lane, A538 Manchester Road and B5091 London Road.

Advanced signage will be positioned for all the works taking place, including variable message signage at key points to advise members of the public.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times and local businesses remain open as usual.

On-site personnel will be on hand to provide any help and advice to the public.

Delays are inevitable, but the council’s highways service has scheduled this work to be carried out during the school holiday period to minimise any delays and congestion.
