Coffee shop to open for business in former Patisserie Valerie site

Patisserie Valerie

A coffee shop chain has announced it is to take over the former Patisserie Valerie shop at a prime location in the centre of Manchester.

The Patisserie Valerie store on Deansgate closed earlier this year when the firm went into administration.

And it has been announced that independent firm Black Sheep Coffee is to take over the prime site.

Black Sheep was founded in London in 2013 by friends Gabriel Shohet and Eirik Holth.

It has expanded rapidly and now has dozens of sites across the country.

The Deansgate site will be the firm’s third branch in the city. It has cafes in Piccadilly Place and Spring Gardens.

The Deansgate shop will serve cocktails alongside snacks.

Gabriel Shohet and Eirik Holth said: “We are delighted to be opening a third site in Manchester following the success of our existing two sites in the city.

“This new opening showcases the exciting expansion of the Black Sheep Coffee family.”

Last month creditors of the failed chain appointed new administrators to take over from KPMG.

FRP Advisory was chosen by creditors that include HMRC and Luke Johnson, the former chairman of Patisserie Valerie.

The firm will investigate whether it can peruse legal claims against Grant Thornton, which audited Patisserie Valerie for 12 years but failed to identify suspected manipulation of its accounts.
