Plans have been drawn up for a new £75m service station between Liverpool and Manchester.

Extra MSA Group have submitted outline proposals for a ‘new concept’ Motorway Service Area  at M62 J11, to the North-East of Warrington.

The new services will not only improve road safety for this section of the motorway but is also an opportunity to create an attractive, high quality services.

The services will include food & beverage outlets, together with  retail, business and leisure facilities.

Extra’s overall proposals would employ in the region of 300 construction workers over the phased build period and create 228 full-time equivalent permanent new jobs when the MSA is operational, many with flexible working hours.

Extra is proposing a Local Employment Agreement as part of the planning application to ensure local firms and local people benefit from the development, including support for apprenticeships.

Extra carried out a public consultation on the draft plans earlier this year and held  three public exhibitions across April, with hundreds of local residents attending to share their thoughts on the proposals and speak with the project team.

The consultation period ran for over four weeks, with a dedicated project website open for feedback submissions and residents able to submit feedback.

Earlier in the year Extra also spoke to with councillors, arranging individual meetings and inviting them to attend a ‘stakeholder’ preview during the public consultation.

Extra said it is committed to continuing this engagement with the local community and ‘stakeholders’ as the planning application is progressed.

The team behind the scheme includes Architecture 519, Spawforths, i-Transport, Wardell Armstrong, Zerum, SLR Consulting, and Sanders Studios.

Andrew Long, chief executive of Extra MSA Group, said: “We are delighted that these proposals are moving forward to the next stage, with our planning application having now been submitted.

“Extra has previously consulted with local ‘stakeholders’ and the local community, to where reasonably possible take all ‘feedback’ into account.

“We are committed to this £75m ‘inward’ investment for the Warrington Region, which will improve road safety for this important section of the Motorway Network, as well as creating a significant number of jobs, along with a full range of other important economic, social and environmental benefits. Extra MSA Warrington will further endorse a new standard for Motorway Service Areas in the UK.”
