Parisian style garden to be built in heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter

Dale Street scheme

Plans for a Parisian style garden in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter have been granted planning permission.

An area on Dale Street outside Chapter One Books café is to be converted into an outside garden.

The area has long had issues with drug taking, drinking and anti-social behaviour.

Chapter One Books has been given permission to transform the 4,000 sq ft area into a French style garden complete with a  Victorian style glass house.

PEN Studios has drawn up plans for the gardens with extensive planting and trees and a children’s play area.

There will also be new outdoor seating large enough to accommodate 80 people. There will also be new lighting and security fencing.

The area will have entrances from both Lever Street and Spear Street and will be open each day

New wrought-iron fencing and lighting will provide added security.

The planning application was backed by Greater Manchester Police and work is set to start on the scheme as soon as possible.
