The Government’s Making Tax Digital drive has helped a Bolton accountants almost double its turnover.

Online accountancy firm More Than Accountants, which was founded in 2016, said it has achieved record growth this year, and is aiming for international expansion.

It has attracted 300 new clients and expects to hit £1m turnover for the current year, compared with £600,000 last year.

The business said the Government’s Making Tax Digital initiative has driven demand, alongside the firm’s fixed monthly fee, which delivers monthly bookkeeping and management report reviews by a chartered accountant.

Aimed at SMEs, the firm says the use of technology such as Xero and Receipt Bank reduces the time taken to bookkeep transactions, enabling cost savings to be passed back to the customer.

Based at Burnden House on Viking Street, More Than Accountants was created by James Duffy and Daniel Rose, who met at Bolton University.

James Duffy said: “We focused on driving our marketing strategy in August 2018 and since this time have experienced soaring demand.

“The fact that our packages have an affordable, fixed monthly price and that we offer unlimited telephone and email support, really makes us stand out against the competition.

“Our team of chartered accountants takes the stress out of bookkeeping and provides monthly management reports and advice, which means that our customers can concentrate on growing their profits knowing that their accounts are in safe hands.”

More Than Accountants is chartered by the IFA (Institute of Financial Accountants) and employs 14 people, including six ACCA chartered accountants and eight trainee chartered accountants.

Working with businesses across the UK, the firm has plans to roll out its online accountancy model to other countries in the future.
