Administrators appointed to Eversmart Energy

Andrew Stone and Will Wright of KPMG have today (September 13) been appointed joint administrators of Eversmart Energy Limited.

Manchester-based Eversmart Energy supplied gas and electricity to around 35,300 customers across the UK.

The company ceased trading and commenced a government-regulated process on September 6, as announced by industry regulator Ofgem.

As a result of that process Ofgem has confirmed that all customers of Eversmart Energy have transferred to Utilita Energy.

At the date of the administration appointment, Eversmart Energy employed 41 members of staff who are being retained to work with Utilita to support the smooth transfer of customers.

Andrew Stone, director at KPMG, said: “The numerous issues currently facing energy retailers are well-documented, and it is against this challenging backdrop that the director of Eversmart Energy asked the regulator to run a Supplier of Last Resort process, culminating in a transfer of customers to Utilita.

“We are pleased to have agreed a deal with Utilita that offers certainty to both customers and employees of the business, with this solution helping to protect supply and billing arrangements to 35,300 transferred customers, and the ongoing employment of 41 staff.”

Any transferred customers who have an outstanding debt will be contacted to discuss repayment options by the new supplier.

Customers who had paid in advance to Eversmart Energy and who have transferred to Utilita will have that balance honoured by the new supplier.

These customers will not be contacted by KPMG or any third party acting on its behalf.

Earlier this week Utilita director of field services, Eddie McGlinn, urged former Eversmart engineers to join the company to ensure a smooth transition for customers.

He said: “We understand this has been a traumatic time for many Eversmart employees, but Utilita is looking to save as many jobs as possible – and ensure Eversmart’s customers receive a high-quality service from Utilita.

“These are highly-skilled engineers who we would love to have on board, so I would urge them to make contact with us.”
