High profile solicitor is first in UK to receive police award

Ian Lewis recognised

A solicitor from a Manchester law firm has become one of the first UK citizens to receive a special recognition award from the Police Superintendents Association.

Ian Lewis, from JMW, has worked on a series of high profile cases involving senior police officers.

As a result he was presented with the award at the Police Superintendents Association annual conference by Victor Marshall and Chief Superintendent Paul Griffiths.

Ian was recognised for his passion for the law and determination to achieve justice for clients.

Ian has represented senior officers in countless cases including the Stephen Lawrence case, Deepcut, the inquest into the deaths of Diana Princess of Wales, Dodi Al-Fayed, the Hillsborough Inquests, and in police operations such as Midland, Lancet, Helios and Elveden.

Ian has specialised in police law for the majority of his career, with a particular emphasis on misconduct proceedings, inquests and enquiries.

For almost 30 years he has been the lead appointed solicitor for the Police Superintendents Association and its members, and has also represented numerous members of CPOSA.

Ian said: “Having worked with the Police Superintendents Association for most of my career, receiving this award was a huge honour – and very unexpected.

“I am pleased to have been able to contribute to supporting the welfare of our country’s best police officers, often at the most difficult juncture in their lives.

“I look forward to continuing to work with the Association and its members and I’m very grateful that they saw fit to present this award to me.”

Alongside his work for the Police, Ian represents professionals in fitness to practice proceedings, including solicitors, barristers, doctors, sportspeople and sporting clubs.
