A £1.5m restaurant is being launched in upmarket Hale by entrepreneur and TV celebrity Raj Somaiya.

The man behind Payal, the UK’s leading Indian wedding caterer, is opening his latest venture in a former bank in the Cheshire village.

The former NatWest bank, which has been standing empty since June 2017, has undergone a major revamp.

The restaurant is called GupShup which means conversation.

The eaterie will serve traditional and classic Indian cuisine alongside the lighter side of Indian food.

Raj is well known in the North West due to his appearance of a number of TV shoes including the Real Housewives of Cheshire and My Big Fat Asian Wedding.

He said: “We wanted to create a restaurant that offered not only the best, authentic Indian food but also a place where people could get together and enjoy each other’s company.

“We also want people to know that Indian food is vast and varied, you could easily dine in our restaurant two or three times a week and never feel you have overdone it.

“We hope people will come and try something new but know we will always have their favourites and it will be the best Indian food they have ever had.”

Interior designer Edwin Pickett – who worked on Tattu & Australasia – is responsible for the decor.

GupShup, which is due to open next month, will create 21 new jobs.
