Consultancies expand facilities and headcount in city centre offices

Part of the upgrade

Atkins and Faithful+Gould, members of the SNC-Lavalin Group, are expanding their presence in the North West with the refurbishment and expansion of their offices in Manchester.

The companies currently employ more than 150 people in Manchester, with in excess of 500 employees across the North West.

As part of expansion plans, both Atkins and Faithful+Gould are increasing their recruitment in the region, with more than 30 live vacancies covering disciplines from architecture, project management and systems engineering to highways, asset management and intelligent transport systems.

To accommodate this growth, Atkins and Faithful+Gould’s current office in The Exchange has been refurbished, with 776 sq m of space added.

In addition to an increased number of desks, the office expansion includes several spaces intended to improve staff wellbeing: collaboration and quiet spaces, additional cycling facilities and a welfare room.

Julie Hurley, client director in Atkins’ Manchester officer, said: “Manchester is a key location for Atkins as we look to continue our support to clients such as Transport for the North on transformative regional initiatives like Northern Powerhouse Rail.

“The investment in additional office space in the city will not only bring all of our teams together in one space, but create additional space to grow our business. It is important to us to continue to draw on local talent to help us deliver projects in the region, the UK and across the globe.”

Kieran McManamon, director at Faithful+Gould in Manchester, added: “The expansion of our Manchester office and wider North West operations means we are well placed to meet the needs of our clients and continue to play our part in the regeneration of the city. Our teams are passionate about making a difference to the communities they work and live in, and the investment in our city centre office will ensure this continues.”

The expansion of Atkins and Faithful+Gould’s Manchester office follows shortly after Faithful+Gould opened its office in Liverpool this July.

These offices, alongside their Warrington office, build on the company’s work in the North West which includes supporting the Mayfield Development Partnership, Manchester’s Echo Street development, Airport City Manchester, Manchester City Council’s Our Town Hall project, Urban & Civic’s Manchester New Square, University of Salford’s new Engineering Building and Manchester Metropolitan University’s new student accommodation at Birley Fields.
