City boss’s Tast restaurant appoints new head chef

A restaurant which is part owned by Manchester City’s manager has appointed a new head chef.

Tast, which is on the upmarket King Street in central Manchester, is owned by Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s director of football Txiki Bergiristain and the club’s chief executive Ferran Soriano, along with the Fazenda group

Alejandro Calvo, who is originally from Santander in Northern Spain, has more than seven years’ experience working alongside Tast’s executive chef Paco Perez.

Tast is considered one of Manchester’s finest restaurants and serves Catalan cuisine.

Alejandro Calvo moved to Barcelona in 2012 to undertake an internship under Paco Perez at the two-Michelin-starred Enoteca.

He also helped to secure Perez’s most recent Michelin star at his restaurant Terra in S’Agaró last year.

He said: “This is my first time living in the UK and my first time in Manchester and I’m really excited to be here.

“At Tast we have a real opportunity to make a name for ourselves as one of the restaurants that is leading the city in its culinary revolution and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

He added: “Every single member of the Tast team, from front of house staff to my team in the kitchen, to the directors, lives and breathes the Barcelona vibe that we’re creating in the restaurant.

“Everyone has a true passion for the food and wants to prove that we’re worthy of being one of the best restaurants in Manchester.”

Tast opened in the summer of 2018.

Tast Cuina Catalana, roughly translates into English as ‘Taste from the Catalan Kitchen.’

Tast has 120-covers over three floors, with Pinya, a casual dining and bar area on the ground floor; Folre, a first-floor dining room with open kitchen; and a second floor Enxaneta, with private dining rooms offering a tasting menu.
