City centre restaurant closes its doors after 12 years of trading

Chaophraya

The owners of a well-known restaurant in Manchester have confirmed that the venue has closed for good.

Chaophraya, which was operated by the Thai Leisure Group, closed its doors in the weeks before Christmas.

And the firm has confirmed that that the move is permanent.

The restaurant opened 12 years ago on Chapel Walks, just off King Street, in the heart of the business district of the city.

Ian Leigh, managing director at parent company Thai Leisure Group, confirmed the permanent closure.

He said: “After 12 years in the city we have unfortunately made the difficult decision to close Chaophraya Manchester.

“We would like to thank all of our guests in the city and our suppliers over this time for their continued support.”

The first Chaophraya restaurant opened in Leeds in 2004, and the company still has has seven sites operating in the UK including Liverpool and Birmingham.

Thai Leisure Group also owns Thaikhun in Spinningfields and Yee Rah in Liverpool.

It also owns Trafford Centre buffet restaurant ChaoBaby, which will be rebranded as Thaikhun Buffet later this year.

All three venues are continuing to trade as normal.

Staff at Chaophraya have bee relocated across the group wherever possible.
