First images of ‘ground-breaking’ Warrington residential scheme

Developer City Centre Projects has revealed images which show the first ‘city standard’ residential development in Warrington town centre.

A planning application has been submitted for the nine-storey luxury apartment block on Mersey Street – and it promises the town’s first roof garden.

The £15m scheme, designed by the Manchester studio of architects Falconer Chester Hall, will deliver 80 apartments if approved and will include a host of luxury features and materials more usually associated with schemes in larger cities.

As well as its roof-top garden, the development will include design features such as brushed anodized aluminium cladding, bronze aluminium windows and perforated panels, giving it a highly-contemporary look.

“We know Warrington can support this level of specification,” said Geoff Underhill, company solicitor and spokesperson for City Centre Projects.

“It’s designed to match the quality of the regeneration going on around it,” he added, referring to the £140m Bridge Street mixed-use project to the rear of the development.

At nine storeys it will be the tallest residential block in Warrington, with the aim to match the scale and massing of the new buildings being developed around it, said Mike Gore, a director at Falconer Chester Hall.

“The proposed scale isn’t just efficient and appropriate, it’s a statement of Warrington’s ambition,” he said.

“We’ve designed it to be in line with the ambitions outlined in the council’s recent town centre masterplan.”

The predominantly brick-clad building will also include two ground floor commercial units and four car parking spaces, with negotiations under way with the local authority to lease 85 spaces at its neighbouring multi-storey car park.
