Discount retailer creates jobs by opening bigger Skelmersdale store

A typical Poundland store

Poundland will open its new store in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, this Saturday, February, 1, creating eight jobs.

Part of the new store will be devoted to the full range of Poundland’s popular PEP&CO fashion for the whole family, bringing a new brand of affordable clothing to Skelmersdale.

The “shop-in-shop” will include an even wider range of children’s clothing than usual to give families more choice in kidswear.

At nearly 12,000 sq ft, the new store, at 30-32 The Concourse Centre, is more than three times larger than the nearby Poundland store it replaces and is one of Poundland’s top 25 stores by size in Britain and Ireland.

Poundland says its investment in the Skelmersdale store is a vote of confidence in the town. The new store will employ 19 people, including the eight new jobs.

A wide range of groceries, health and beauty and homeware products are on sale from 50p to £5 under the store’s simple pricing policy. Three quarters of products will be at Poundland’s famous £1 price point.

Austin Cooke, Poundland retail director, said: “We have been part of the Skelmersdale community for years and we’re now delighted to be moving to a better store in the Concourse centre.

“It means we can offer a wider range of everyday products than ever and we look forward to welcoming shoppers through our doors so they can make the most of the amazing value and convenience.

“Customers have told us that they can’t wait for us to start selling PEP&CO clothes in Skelmersdale. Kidswear is such an important part of the family shop and we’ll be selling schoolwear with our 101-day guarantee.”
