Congleton route to close temporarily as link road progresses

Giantswood Lane in Congleton is set to close for around six-weeks to allow vital work on the Congleton link road to progress.

The closure – which is in place to enable the completion of concrete works, essential utility diversions and resurfacing – will begin from February 21.

A signed diversion route for cyclists and pedestrians, alongside a route for motorists, will be in place throughout the closure.

Cllr Craig Browne, deputy leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “This is a key element to the construction of Congleton’s new link road, with the roundabouts ensuring that the link road is connected in the area.

“I would like to thank all those affected by the inconvenience of this closure for your patience while we deliver this ambitious £90m infrastructure programme.”

It is anticipated that the road will re-open to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians from Easter 2020.
