First of 25 new aircraft delivered to Swiss carrier

The Hamburg handover of the Airbus A320neo to Swiss International Airlines

Swiss International Airlines has taken delivery of its first A320neo (new engine option) aircraft at a delivery ceremony in Hamburg, Germany.

It is the first of 25 A320neo family aircraft ordered by Swiss International Air Lines.

The A320neo family incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines, Sharklets (modified wing tips) and cabin efficiency enablers which, together, deliver 20% fuel savings.

With more than 7,300 orders received from in excess of 110 customers since its launch in 2010, the A320neo family has captured an estimated 60% share of the market.

Airbus employs more than 6,000 staff at its Broughton plant, near Chester, which makes wings for all Airbus commercial aircraft.

Last week the aircraft manufacturer announced annual results which showed an 11% increase in revenues of €70.5bn, although it posted a consolidated net loss of €1.4bn for 2019, against profits of €3.1bn in 2018.

This was due to a €1.2bn charge on its troubled A400m military transport programme and the recent €3.6bn settlement for bribery and corruption.

Adjusted earnings before interest and tax of €6.9bn were a 19% improvement, year-on-year.
