New look in store for historic city centre landmark

CGI of refurb planned for reception area

Arkwright House, the iconic landmark office building situated in the heart of Manchester city centre, is set to undergo a significant transformation.

Designed by Sheppard Robson, Claremont has been appointed to undertake a comprehensive remodelling of the reception area to provide a new business lounge, concierge, and collaborative workspace.

Situated in Parsonage Gardens, off Deansgate, Arkwright House is one of the few prime city centre office buildings to benefit from a green park on its doorstep.

Designed in 1927 by the prolific architect, Harry S Fairhurst, the neo-classical building has an interesting past.

Originally the headquarters for the English Sewing Cotton Company, the building became the North West Command Post of Government during World War II, with an office and sleeping quarters designated for Winston Churchill’s use during his strategic visits to the North West.

Arkwright House provides modern Grade A office space with largest single floor plates available of 15,000 sq ft, with current occupiers including Ramboll and Push Doctor.

Colliers International and Avison Young are the retained letting agents for the building.

Chris Cheap, director at Avison Young, said: “This redesigned reception area is an important next step in the continued transformation of Arkwright House and follows the recent refurbishment of the office space.

“Arkwright House provides fantastic office accommodation with stunning views overlooking Parsonage Gardens, offering great external amenity space for occupiers to use and enjoy.

“The new ground floor reception will connect Arkwright House into Parsonage Gardens with a vibrant, active open space for tenants and visitors to the building.”

Dominic Pozzoni, director, Colliers International, added: “Post the current lockdown, we are all looking forward to being able to return to the workplace and collaborate with our colleagues.

“Over the past month, and as we have all adjusted in our working habits, we have all appreciated the importance and benefits of having use of external space.

“Arkwright House, in the heart of the city centre, will be ideally placed to not only provide fantastic office space, but to also have the unique benefit for occupiers to collaborate, relax and enjoy Parsonage Gardens, one of the city centre’s most beautiful public gardens.”
