100 jobs on the menu at new music and restaurant venue

Designs for The Blues Kitchen venue

Up to 100 jobs will be created by the opening of a new entertainment venue in Manchester city centre early next year.

The Blues Kitchen will be launching in early 2021 and is set to take over the old Walkabout site just off Deansgate, bringing its Southern States-inspired restaurant, bar and 600-capacity late night music spot to Quay Street.

The team behind the venue have lived a life-long love affair with Blues music alongside a passion for rare Bourbon and an obsession with Southern barbecue food.

Customers can expect food and drink menus influenced by the Deep South, live music from local and international musicians seven nights a week, and DJs playing timeless soul, funk, rock n roll and roots music into the small hours every weekend.

Steve Ball, chief executive of the Columbo Group, which owns Blues Kitchen, said: “When we decided to spread our wings it had to be Manchester, it’s such a cool city.

“It’s the only other city we’d consider doing anything in.”

Established in 2006, The Columbo Group owns and manages several of London’s best music venues and nightlife institutions.

Owned and operated by Steve Ball and Riz Shaikh, the group says it has forged a culture of commitment, responsibility and pride within its venues which transcends hierarchy.

The group’s venues include The Blues Kitchen, The Camden Assembly, Jazz Cafe, Phonox, XOYO, The Old Queen’s Head, and Maiden Voyage Festival
