Your Housing Group submits planning application for 216 new homes

Plans for the proposed development

A planning application has been submitted for a new housing development on Edge Lane, in Openshaw, Greater Manchester.

Warrington-based affordable housing provider, Your Housing Group, will build the 216 homes, which will be available for various tenures with 72 for sale through shared ownership, 72 for private rent and 72 for affordable rent.

The plans consist of one- and two-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four-bed houses with a mix of terrace, semi-detached and detached properties with gardens and attractive, landscaped green spaces.

Richard Jones, director of growth for Your Housing Group, said: “This development is going to provide much-needed affordable housing in Openshaw.

“It will transform the former warehouse and bring further investment into East Manchester, adding to the ongoing wider regeneration of the area.

“The location also provides excellent transport links to Manchester and it is close to local parks and schools.”

This development has been funded through Your Housing Group’s strategic partnership with Homes England.

Your Housing Group was announced as one of the Government housing agency’s strategic partners in January 2019, receiving £87.5m in funding in line with the Government’s aspiration to provide 11,000 affordable new homes across the country.

Jackie Jacob, director of affordable housing at Homes England, said: “Our strategic partnerships with housing associations provide the investment, flexibility and resources they need to significantly increase the supply of much-needed affordable homes, including homes for social and affordable rent, supported living and shared ownership.

“Submitting this planning application is an important step to building new affordable homes in Openshaw, and it’s encouraging to see Your Housing Group continuing to take forward plans for the delivery of much-needed affordable homes during such unprecedented times.”

The land was purchased in 2019 and some demolition has already begun.

Remediation work is due to start in late Summer, subject to planning approval, with work starting on site towards the end of the year.
