Telcom Group signs up as first tenant in refurbished Hilton House

Hilton House

CERT Property has signed its first tenant, Telcom Group, at Hilton House, the recently restored building in the heart of the Northern Quarter.

It says it believes this to be the first significant commercial let in Manchester since lockdown began.

Telcom group is a leader in technology and connectivity working to evolve the traditional Internet Service Provider model to that of a Connectivity Provider.

Its move into Hilton House will enable it to further expand its infrastructure operation and support its ambitious growth plans.

It will be taking 3,638 sq ft in the building, leasing the entire fifth floor.

Designed by renowned 1960s architect Richard Seifert, brutalist building Hilton House has been a hidden gem at the end of Hilton Street for decades and developer and owner CERT recently completed an extensive refurbishment project to bring the building back to life.

The refurbishment works, carried out by Ancoats-based contractor Armitage Construction, included extending and completely upgrading the envelope of the building, replacing existing windows with floor to ceiling windows and internally uncovering and celebrating the building’s original features, including parquet floors discovered under old carpet, and terracotta ceilings hidden behind plasterboard.

Howard Lord, managing director of CERT property, said: “Telcom have been involved from outset of the Hilton House renovations, they are providing us with 10,000Mbps broadband, giving the building one of the fastest internet speeds in the whole of the UK.

“Whilst working on the project, Telcom fell in love with the building and jumped at the chance to move in and become our first tenants.

“We have been working with Telcom for a number of years and have seen them deservedly grow their business exponentially. We’re delighted to be a part of this journey with them and to welcome them to Hilton House, giving them a base for further expansion.”

Danny Smith, from Telcom Group, said: “We are delighted to be the first tenant in this majestic building, and are really impressed with the collaborative energy that the restoration has created.

“We were born and raised in the Northern Quarter and now to expand within the most vibrant and energetic community is the right step for us.”
