Saudi Arabian development company Majdiah Residence is bringing forward a 178,000 sq ft residential-led, mixed-use scheme as part of a £15m renovation of Stockport’s Grade II-listed Meadow Mill.

Despite a 10-week site shutdown while COVID-19 measures were put in place, work is well under way again and completion is due in May 2021.

Located on Water Street and Tiviot Way and overlooking the Portwood Roundabout in Stockport town centre, the building was acquired by Majdiah Residence in July 2018.

The seven-storey mill, which was built in 1880, was originally occupied by T&J Leigh for its cotton and wool spinning business.

Under Majdiah’s ownership Meadow Mill has undergone an extensive renovation programme by the company’s development arm, which includes the provision of 213 one-, two- and three-bedroom luxury apartments, as well as 23,767 sq ft of leisure and commercial space and a further 2,152 sq ft which is allocated to restaurant use.

Stockport’s Impey & Co has been appointed to market the 23,000 sq ft ground floor commercial space which has been split into five individual units.

Philip Harrison, investment manager at International Investment Gate, which is acting on behalf of the owners, said: “Meadow Mill is a superb example of how Stockport’s historic mill buildings can be redesigned to have a bright new future.

“The redevelopment programme will deliver housing for the local community as well as leisure and commercial uses in a prominent location close to the town centre.”

Impey and Co surveyor, Johnathan Poole, said: “Meadow Mill is one of Stockport’s most impressive historic buildings and the renovation programme will deliver a wide range of new uses designed to meet the needs of modern occupiers.

“Close to the town centre and with a significant amount of on-site residential accommodation and parking, it is the perfect location for a business such as a gym or play centre.

“Although planning has been granted for D2 Leisure, in this location there these is a plethora of other potential uses for the ground floor, subject to planning.

“Despite the recent lockdown we are definitely seeing an increase in activity now the restrictions have been further eased and viewing numbers are increasing.”

Based on Lower Hillgate, Impey & Co is an eight-strong business which advises on all aspects of commercial and industrial property in Stockport and across South Manchester.
