A further step forward has been taken in creating an exciting future for New Brighton with the appointment of experienced consultants who will be responsible for progressing an innovative and aspirational masterplan for this unique coastal town.

After a rigorous search, Wirral Council appointed Building Design Partnership as they are recognised as having a wealth of experience of working with the community.

Their specialist team will work alongside colleagues from Wirral Council and the community to shape a blueprint for New Brighton which will secure its future, bringing with them expertise in physical, economic including retail, leisure and tourism, transport, social and environmental regeneration.

With the input of the local residents and businesses, the intention is to design a new ambitious and deliverable vision for the future of New Brighton as a truly special place to live, visit and do business.

The team will build on the success of a range of great regeneration initiatives and will provide a clear framework to drive forward and guide the sustainable economic growth and renewal of New Brighton for the next 15 years.

Central to the success of the masterplan is the involvement of the local community and businesses.

It will be the number one priority of the consultants to effectively engage with the local community and a wide range of stakeholders, including local businesses, community groups and transport providers, to seek their views on the potential for New Brighton, helping to identify and overcome any barriers which could hamper the progress of the masterplan process.

Listening to, and understanding, stakeholder views and ideas for their local area will be critical to define what is needed most in New Brighton.

Their views will help shape the masterplan which will influence future investment in the social, economic and environmental regeneration and renewal of New Brighton, reflected in the council’s emerging Local Plan and Climate Change Action Plan.

It will also incorporate a comprehensive ‘movement and access study’ which will look at access to and around the town and facilities for walking, cycling, transport and parking.

Having now been appointed, BDP will aim to begin the initial public consultation in September, with a view to delivering the final masterplan in May 2021.

Cabinet member for regeneration & growth, Cllr Tony Jones, said: “We are pleased to be working with BDP and we are excited at the prospect of developing a tangible and much-needed masterplan for New Brighton, along with the community and local businesses, local input into this plan is essential in order for it to be successful.

“A clear and shared vision is critical to revitalise the town.

“It will provide a common goal for the community and stakeholders and will energise them to get involved.

“It will be the catalyst to complete the renaissance of New Brighton as a special and unique place to live, visit and do business and as a great place for arts and cultural activity.”
