Sanitiser sales provides tonic for gin distillery

Gin distillery Zymurgorium is looking to provide its own tonic to the recent turmoil with the arrivial of a second bottling line.

The Salford-based business, like other distilleries, pivoted into making santiser which has so far generated £600,000 in sales.

The company had focussed on three areas when lockdown came – the production of sanitiser, online sales, and securing food safety standard SALSA accreditation.

Zymurgorium launched its own brand of sanitiser, Zymitizer, pitching in with other distilleries to supply to Greater Manchester Fire Service, Blood Bikers and care homes.

The business is now preparing to launch a range of products including a hush hush rum, as well as separate gels and liquid sanitisers. It is also hoping to announce new partnerships soon.

Zymurgorium director Callum Darke said: “Luck and good judgment just about sums up our ecommerce experience over the last few months.

“Our own online sales have now smashed through the six-figure barrier.

“At the same time, we worked with our online partners who were also investing heavily in their online presence early on. Amazingly we also managed to secure a few decent accounts in the on and off trade and a few European orders at the same time.”
