Monks driving forward with expansion plans

Blackburn-based Monks Contractors is driving forward with growth plans, despite the pandemic, by expanding the company’s fleet and staff numbers.

Following a recent £600,000 investment in vehicles and trailers, Monks now operate one of the largest waste haulage fleets in Lancashire.

The business also provides plant hire and drainage services.

Expansion plans are supported by recent contract award successes, which include being appointed by Lancashire Renewables to provide 30 new waste disposal and recycling vehicles.

To support the increased scale of operations, staff numbers are increasing, with a new transport assistant having recently joined the team of 70.

Recruitment continues with the company offering opportunities for HGV Class 1 drivers, a new HSEQ manager position and a business development manager role.

Chris Monk, managing director of Monks Contractors, said: “Since the onset of COVID-19 the waste management industry, like many others, has faced significant challenges – none less than the temporary closure of household waste recycling centres during the first lockdown.

“Our sector has worked together to introduce safety measures and I’m glad to say 100 per cent of our fleet is now back on the roads, and we’re adding to it.

“Despite the pandemic, waste continues to be created and needs to be moved – and we’re focused on driving forward by growing our capacity to meet that demand.”

Monks Contractors supports around 90 clients across the North of the UK.
