Plans for 400 more homes in Crewe approved

Avison Young has secured a resolution to grant planning approval from Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board for 400 new homes, including affordable provision, in Leighton, Crewe, on behalf of the applicant, Engine of the North.

The 19-hectare site forms part of a wider masterplan for homes for the area, totalling 98 hectares, which will ultimately deliver 1,250 homes.

Plans also include the North West Crewe package of highway improvements, which, along with the additional 850 homes, have now been approved as part of another application, also submitted by Avison Young.

The team worked closely with IBI Planning, as well as the adjacent landowners and stakeholders to develop the comprehensive, illustrative masterplan.

The site is situated two miles North West of the town centre, close to Leighton Hospital and Bentley Motors and is well connected by public transport links, allowing for a reduced reliance on private motor vehicles.

A number of local amenities are also located just over half a mile from the site, making it a perfect location for residential use.

Richard Barton, principal at Avison Young, said: “We are delighted to see this application approved.

“It will not only deliver much needed open market and affordable housing, but it will also help facilitate the delivery of significant highways infrastructure improvements in North West Crewe.”

Work is now expected to commence on site in 2021.
