Deal agreed for 57 homes on site of derelict pub

Mulbury director Greg Mulligan

Residential developer Mulbury has struck a deal with Great Places Housing Group to create 57 affordable homes in Hollingworth, Tameside.

Mulbury will redevelop the former Organ pub in Market Street, which closed in 2015, into five apartments, while the rest of the 3.6-acre derelict site being used to accommodate 52 two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The £7.3m development was granted planning consent last month.

Mulbury is set to complete 455 homes for registered housing providers in the current financial year. The company also remains confident of hitting the target it set in October 2019 of building 3,000 new homes in the North West over the next five years.

“These vital new homes will provide an opportunity for local people to remain in Hollingworth in a more affordable way,” said Greg Mulligan, director at Mulbury.

“During our longstanding partnership with Great Places we’ve played a key role in regenerating communities and we’re pleased to be working with them once again to move this site forward.”

21 homes from the scheme being made available by Great Places for shared ownership and the remaining 36 for affordable rent.

Helen Spencer, director of development at Great Places, said: “The mixed-tenure site will offer choice for customers, and we expect it to prove popular. As a group, we are actively contributing to tackling the housing crisis and providing affordable quality housing across the North West and Yorkshire.”

PWA Planning advised Mulbury on the planning application and the scheme has been designed by GTD. Mulbury said it hopes to be on site within the next few weeks and the development is expected to be complete in autumn 2022.
