Occupancy expands at out-of-town business park

Birchwood Park

Warrington’s Birchwood Park has welcomed two new tenants.

Housebuilder Miller Homes has relocated its North West office to Dalton Avenue at Birchwood Park, while engineering inspections giant British Engineering Services has moved into the park’s latest warehouse development.

Miller Homes has moved from Woodlands Park in Newton-Le-Willows to Birchwood and said it has used the lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic, with many of its office-based staff working from home, to re-evaluate the role and function of the workplace and to consider future working practices within the internal design.

The new office will help support the company’s eco credentials by being paperless in a bid to cut waste and will also offer non designated, flexible working spaces – giving team members the opportunity to move freely around the office to make the best use of the various formal and informal types of workspace which have been created.

The move comes as the company announces forthcoming developments in the North West this year with jobs being created for contractors at new sites in Clitheroe, Wigan, Cliviger and Prescot, all located less than an hour away from the new regional office.

Regional director, Ian Smith, said: “We have learned a lot during the pandemic lockdown period about how we want to function as a business in the future and are excited for the change in our regional office location and found Birchwood Park to be in the ideal location with its proximity to major transport routes including the M6 and M62 as well as providing ready access to Birchwood train station.

“We have planned for the office to capture a more modern and flexible way of working, with no designated desks and being paperless in an effort to support our sustainability objectives.”

Meanwhile, British Engineering Services, which has had a North West presence for more than 160 years, is taking up occupancy of 718 Eddington Way in an 18,000 sq ft tailor-made warehouse facility.

The facility based will become a centre for training that will see employees from all around the country travel to the area for introductory and upskilling training courses, boosting footfall in the Birchwood area.

Hazel Doherty, head of training at British Engineering Services, said: “When it came to choosing the home of our new training centre, Birchwood Park was an obvious choice for us. With our trainees coming from all over the UK and Ireland, we wanted somewhere close to the motorway network that wasn’t too far from our Manchester roots and Birchwood Park ticked those boxes.

Martin O’Rourke, commercial director at Birchwood Park, said: ‘Birchwood Park has, for over 20 years, been recognised as the region’s leading out-of-town destination for business, and we’re exited to see our roster of businesses in the science and engineering sectors grow – even during these most challenging of times.”

In 2018, Birchwood Park celebrated its 20th birthday. Since 1998, the park has almost tripled in size, providing 1.1 million sq ft of office and warehouse space and accommodating more than 165 businesses in a variety of sectors.
