Manchester personal injury (PI) law firm, Express Solicitors, has acquired a further 750 cases from an undisclosed North West law firm for £395,000, comprising a mix of Road Traffic Accident, Employers Liability and Clinical Negligence cases.

The purchase of the PI cases comes fresh off the back of the acquisition of McKay’s Solicitors in Liverpool that included 1,400 cases and with organic client growth for the firm, this has increased its case load by more than 21% in the final quarter of the year to in excess of 3,000.

Over the past few years Express Solicitors has also bought and became the successor practice for Lavin Copitch, took the caseload of Ashfields Solicitors in a pre-pack deal, and purchased the PI caseload from Edward Hands and Lewis when it exited the PI marketplace.

It is the start of major expansion for the firm, which has a goal to become a market leader. The two, most recent acquisitions have helped Express to take a large stride towards this goal and takes its total caseloads to more than 17,000 active cases.

James Maxey, Express Solicitors managing partner, said: “This second acquisition will help us to continue our aim to become the number one consumer claims specialist firm in the UK.

“We have grown steadily over the last three years to a position just below the top 100 law firms.”

He added: “We’re still actively looking for further acquisitions of full PI Law firms or just caseloads from firms looking to exit the PI marketplace. With the upcoming changes to PI claims, several firms will be – and already are – looking to exit that market.

“We still have money in the war chest to come to swift decisions.”

Express Solicitors is ranked in The Lawyer Top 200, its lawyers and the firm are recognised in The Legal 500 and the firm is noted in Chambers and Partners.

The firm specialises in personal injury and accident claims, clinical negligence claims and serious injury cases.
