Global agency Dept snaps up two more firms in expansion drive

Manchester-based digital agency Dept has continued with acquisitions with two more deals.

As part of ongoing expansion plans, Dept has bought fast growing martech firm Byte and US-based Devetry.

Founded by Alex Miller and Jamie Kenny in 2014, Byte has 150 staff across London, New York and Berlin.

The company specialises in ad campaigns, AR, automation and chatbots, working with clients including Spotify, Asos and TikTok.

“We’ve become part of Dept to accelerate global growth and supercharge our tech offer with access to over 500 engineers across the world,” said Byte’s founding partner, Alex Miller.

“We’re excited to help Dept achieve its vision of becoming the leading digital agency in the world.”

Dept has also acquired Portland software consultancy, Devetry.

Founded in 2015, Devetry is Denver’s largest independent software engineering organization, with expertise across renewable energy, education, cybersecurity, and SaaS products.

Brett Truka, CEO and co-founder at Devetry, said: “Our mission is to simplify the complex world of software and deliver the best results for our clients.

“Joining Dept enables us to immediately expand our global footprint and our service offerings in data, digital marketing, and commerce to provide more value to our clients across a diverse range of technologies.”

Dept is backed by investment firm The Carlyle Group.

Acquisitions in recent years have included Amazon specialist factor-a in Germany in 2018, Manchester-based e3Creative in 2019 and US digital branding agency Basic in 2020.
