Team behind Trof, Gorilla and Albert Hall set to launch Detroit pizzeria and margarita bar

First look at Ramona

A Detroit pizzeria and margarita bar is set to open in Manchester this month thanks to the team behind Trof, Gorilla and Albert Hall.

Ramona MCR is Ancoats’ newest haunt and will be based in a former disused warehouse opposite the popular Mackie Mayor and Band on the Wall.

The restaurant and bar will be housed in a large warehouse, surrounded by an enclosed beer garden.

A second building – the MOT station – will host live entertainment and a festoon lit forecourt will be partly covered by a large tipi providing shelter for special guest DJs and the margarita bar.

Joel Wilkinson, Adelaide Winter and Dan Mullen, are the creative team behind the project.

The inspiration for Ramona came from one of the team who spent the last few months of lockdown in South America researching the world of Mezcal, tequila and margarita.

“Ramona has been a year in the making, in what has been such a tough year for everyone, especially our industry,” said Adelaide.

“We can’t wait to show more of what Ramona is all about. But most of all be able to welcome guests properly into the beer garden for a great time.”

The development is in partnership with Manchester placemakers and social impact developers’ Capital & Centric.

Tim Heatley , co-founder, Capital & Centric, said: “We hate the idea of a building or a place sitting empty. First we created a covid supply depot out of the derelict buildings and now it’s ace to get our mates from Ramona in.

“Manchester’s always needed more beer gardens, especially now, but this isn’t just a few tables and chairs thrown outside, it’s a properly planned space.

With Detroit style pizza mixed Manchester beers and tipi – I’m sure it’s going to be rammed as everyone starts coming back into the city.”

Ramona is set to open on 14 April.
