New leadership at Arup’s Liverpool office

Andy Pennington, Arup, Liverpool

Andy Pennington is set to take over the leadership of Arup’s office in Liverpool, replacing Garry Banks who is stepping down after more than 20 years.

Andy has led Arup’s Science, Industry & Technology business in North West and Yorkshire.

Due to complete this month, he led the team responsible for the design of The Spine, the new northern home for the Royal College of Physicians, within Knowledge Quarter Liverpool.

Andy said: “This is an exciting time for the Arup Liverpool office. I am thrilled to be taking over the leadership and look forward to the challenge of growing the business to over 100 staff.”

Since opening in December 2000, the office has grown from 2 staff members to over 70 and provides a range of building engineering, infrastructure and consultancy services.

Andy added: “The broad range of skills we can offer from Liverpool, combined with the ability to tap into Arup experts from around the world, enables us to provide a tailored local service with global expertise.

“The next five years will see the continued growth of our social value, digital and sustainable development teams with a strong pipeline of projects in place in Liverpool and beyond.”

Garry said: “I am delighted that Andy has agreed to lead the office into its next phase.

“We are immensely proud of the offices’ achievements so far, and our role in supporting the economic development of the City and City Region as well as delivering award-winning projects.

“Andy is perfectly placed to continue this success and I wish him well as we all look to return to our offices.”

As Garry steps away from his role as office leader, he will continue to provide expertise for clients across the Liverpool city region and beyond.
