Housebuilder unveils plans for 80-home scheme in Lancashire village

An example of homes planned for Catterall

Eighty new homes in the Wyre village of Catterall will be the 10th development by Anwyl Homes Lancashire.

Close to the market town of Garstang, and roughly half way between Preston and Lancaster, this latest land acquisition represents further expansion for the Chorley-based housebuilder.

In a private treaty sale, subject to planning consent, Anwyl has secured 8.5 acres of former agricultural land that has already been allocated for housing in the local plan. The purchase was negotiated through David Cowburn at Cowburn Land and Graham Salisbury of Graham Anthony Associates.

Anwyl is now seeking detailed planning consent from Wyre Council for 80 of its homes, comprising three- and four-bedroom detached, three-bedroom semi-detached and terraced houses and two-bedroom apartments.

The development will include 30% affordable housing for a mix of rent and shared ownership, while a Section 106 agreement to be agreed with Wyre Council is likely to include sizeable contributions to education, healthcare and highways locally.

The new site is situated on the rural outskirts of Catterall, a small village on the A6 with a real community feel and local amenities including a village hall, Co-op food store and outreach post office.

The wider shops and services of Garstang are around two miles away, including Booths and Sainsbury’s supermarkets and a weekly outdoor market.

Anwyl Homes Lancashire managing director John Grime said: “We’re making great strides towards our target of building 400 homes per annum by 2023.

“The new site at Catterall will contribute to that total, with construction due to start spring 2022 and the first legal completions around six months later.

“Earlier this year we acquired a nine-acre site at Warton, in Fylde, and we’ve got developments ongoing in Barton, Burscough, Longridge and Fulwood, in Lancashire, plus three sites in Merseyside and another in Cheshire.”

He added: “Our growth strategy is well on track and we now employ nearly 60 people at our regional offices at Buckshaw Village, Chorley and across our developments.”
