Refrigerated vehicles manufacturer to recruit 50 more staff

The Solomon Commercials headquarters

Solomon Commercials, the Lancashire manufacturer of rigid refrigerated vehicles, is to create 50 jobs at the Rossendale-based business.

Established in 1976, Solomon currently employs more than 350 people and designs and manufactures refrigerated vehicles working with independent businesses to PLCs, dot-com enterprises and retailers.

The business produces approximately 3,500 vehicles a year from its seven operating departments in Rossendale, Darwen and Bacup, which totals 240,000 sq ft of production facilities.

Different sites provide services from chassis preparation, to panel manufacturing, body assembly, and final build and inspection.

The boost in job numbers has been prompted by a series of contract wins from high profile retailers and increased demand for vehicles needed for businesses that have expanded home delivery services.

Anthony Clegg, sales director, said: “Over the past two years we have been planning for, and achieving sustainable growth and combined with several contract wins complemented by repeat business, we’re in a fantastic position to expand our workforce.

“Demand for our quality vehicles remains high because we’re driven by a partnership approach with our clients, which is underpinned by our commitment to innovation.

“In addition, we’re investing in the business, and we now need more people to join us.”
