Telecoms business makes right connection through acquisition

A Merseyside telecoms business has acquired a North East operation, for an undisclosed sum.

Communications Plus, which is based in Rainford, is a provider of B2B communications.

It was founded in 2006 and employs more than 200 people across 21 locations, and was named as O2 Franchise of the Decade in 2018.

It has acquired Cellular Solutions, based in Sunderland, which is a specialist provider of communications and business systems.

Founded by Mike Bowers in 1995, Cellular Solutions is part of the O2 direct partner network, offering customers mobile, landline, broadband and software services.

As part of the transaction, Cellular Solutions’ business software division transferred to Smith Cooper System Partners, an accredited Sage business partner.

RSM’s M&A and private equity team advised the shareholders of Cellular Solutions on the sale.

Steven Brown, associate director at RSM, said: “Cellular Solutions is a long standing RSM client and it has been a pleasure to work with Mike and the other shareholders.

“He has built a successful business based on a proactive, personal and problem-solving approach to account management, practices shared by Communications Plus. I look forward to seeing the combined business going from strength to strength.”

Swinburne Maddison provided legal advice to the shareholders.

Communications Plus was advised by Langtons (financial) and Gunnercooke (legal). Flint Bishop provided legal advice to Smith Cooper System Partners.
