Specialist cyber security distributor, Distology, has chosen Stockport town centre as the location for its global office headquarters as part of ambitious growth plans following investment from NorthEdge PE.

The firm has also boosted its headcount, including strategic appointments.

Distology’s new HQ will be located at Orbit Developments’ No 1. St Peters Square, totalling 4,175 sq ft, and is close to Stockport’s popular Market Place area.

The space is an upscale from 1,628 sq ft at its existing premises at Lansdowne House to accommodate the growing team.

Founded in 2014, Distology has quickly become a specialist in cloud-based cyber security technology, representing vendors of IT security technology products across EMEA. The business is based in the UK with access to the European market via its office in The Netherlands.

Distology has enjoyed consistent success, increasing year-on-year revenue by more than 75% over the past three years, with key partnerships including technology vendors Okta, Verkada and Yubico.

The success of those partnerships led to Distology winning the Cloud Distributor of the Year award at the CRN Awards 2020, and Distributor of the Year (sub £250m turnover) in 2019.

Chief executive, Hayley Roberts, said: “As the CEO of Distology, it’s my job to ensure the environment I expect my team to work from is exciting, inspiring, and, most importantly, conducive to Distology’s ambitious, yet supportive culture and it’s the transformation we’re seeing in Stockport’s town centre that attracted me to want to stay in the area instead of relocating our office into Manchester.

“The growing list of amenities gives my team access to café’s, bars and restaurants – many of which rival those you see in the Northern Quarter, but equally as important is the ease of accessibility.

“We have affordable parking and a variety of public transport options a short walk away, and as a company that regularly commutes to London, Stockport train station with direct links to Euston has been a huge draw for us.”

Rhys Owen, leasing director at Orbit Developments, said: “1 St Peters Square is our premium property in the town centre, having undergone a comprehensive refurbishment throughout. Securing a returning customer of the calibre of Distology is testament to the quality of the building, but also the changes taking place across this part of the town centre.

“Being so close to a growing range of amenities really helps a company to develop bonds between employees and teams outside of the work place.

“Modern, forward thinking tech businesses are showing a real interest in Stockport and we are seeing a strong, healthy demand for space like No 1, where companies can make their mark and provide staff with a workplace to attract the best talent across Greater Manchester and further afield.”

Distology has more than doubled its team over the past 12 months, as well as onboarding 40 new strategic partners.

Growing from 20 to 50 employees, Distology has made a number of senior hires over the past year, including new chief product officer, Lance Williams, who joined in June 2021 following a 15-year stint at global IT infrastructure provider Softcat, where he headed up its market development for services.

Bringing with him vast experience in growing revenue and services, as well as improving collaboration within internal teams, Lance will be instrumental in Distology’s next phase of growth.

Ms Roberts added: “It’s been a really challenging 18 months for so many businesses, with so much uncertainty across the board. However, we’re delighted that we’ve been able to accelerate growth from both a team and commercial standpoint, whilst retaining the key elements that make our business unique.

“We credit our success to a number of different factors including the dedication of our talented team, our unique and innovative ways of working, exceptional customer experiences and deep knowledge and expertise of the cyber sector.

“It’s a really exciting time at Distology and we’re looking forward to really accelerating the successes we’ve seen over the past 12 months. We want to continue shaking up the distribution market, with a focus on providing a unique and valuable service to our clients, as well as growing and developing our internal team.”
