Bistro Marc at Winter’s prepares for winter opening

After the completion of painstaking restoration work, the final phase will now begin to transform Stockport’s historic Winter’s building into French restaurant Bistro Marc at Winter’s, ready for opening in the new year.

Stockport Council announced at the beginning of the year that work was under way to revamp this iconic site.

Led by husband and wife co-owners, chef Marc Molé and Rachel Winter Jones, business and PR manager, Bistro Marc at Winter’s will be a cosy French bistro serving French favourites, with a focus on using fresh local produce from Stockport Indoor Markets and other local suppliers.

The fit-out for the 70 cover restaurant, which will operate over two floors, will include a brand new chef’s kitchen, restoring and renovating the original bench seating, renovation of the old bar to allow for counter dining, as well as artwork and images depicting Winter’s through the years.

Owners Marc and Rachel have gone to great lengths to ensure the original fabric of the building is respected and preserved, for example working with local lighting specialists Agapanthus Interiors.

Using their expertise, lights in the old bar area have been salvaged and renovated and given a new lease of life as pendant lights on the ground floor of the building.

Cllr David Meller, cabinet member for economy and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “I am thrilled that we can now let Marc and Rachel take the reins to prepare for the opening of their new business.

“The renovation work and clock look spectacular and Marc and Rachel now have a blank canvas to give Bistro Marc a strong identity and make their mark to bring this much loved building back to life.

“I know the future of Winter’s is in safe hands and it will be a welcome addition to Stockport’s vibrant restaurant scene. I look forward to hearing their opening plans in the new year.”

Chef Marc Molé and Rachel Winter Jones said: “We are so excited that the day is finally here when we can hold the keys of Winter’s in our hands after almost three years of planning. Stockport Council’s team working on Winter’s has done an amazing job to bring this iconic beloved building and its unique chiming clock and figures back to life.

“The exterior of the building is stunning. Now, it’s our job to begin the careful refurbishment of the interior and we want to take our time to hopefully make Jacob Winter proud. So we look forward to opening the doors of Bistro Marc at Winter’s in the New Year. It’s actually fitting that Winter’s opens in the winter.”

Bistro Marc at Winter’s has also begun the process of recruiting staff in both front of house and kitchen roles.
