Green light for Blackburn supported living development

The proposed Blackburn scheme

Planning approval has been secured for a specialist supported living scheme at Higher Croft Road, Blackburn.

Comprising 11 one person high quality self-contained apartments, which will provide 24/7 support for people with long term complex mental health conditions such as learning disabilities and autism, the accommodation includes features to keep residents safe and to empower them to have greater choice and control in their lives, enabling them to thrive.

Working closely with the Adult Social Care Team at Blackburn with Darwen Council, Oldham-based Studio KMA said the proposals have been developed in line with specific care models, with the design, layout and landscaping fully integrated to ensure a holistic environment is created that enhances the quality of life for residents.

Studio KMA said it places emphasis on designing schemes that offer tangible social value. The team has extensive experience in this growing, specialist area, working closely with housing associations, care providers and local authority social care teams to design and deliver innovative schemes that transform the lives of residents and their families.

The firm has secured planning consent for eight sites for this type of accommodation across the North West, comprising in the region of 140 specialist apartments in the past four years alone, and will be mobilising to deliver three of these sites later this year.

Craig Welsh, associate at Studio KMA, said: “Seeking opportunities to enhance social value is a thread that runs right through the core of Studio KMA, and we’re eager to move forward with the project team and deliver this facility for the local community.”

Studio KMA has offices in Ashton-under-Lyne and Chester.
