Expansion continues as Blackpool haulier and plant group seals latest deal

Fox Group, the Blackpool-based haulier and plant company, has acquired Preston’s Blackledge Plant Hire for an undisclosed sum.

Family-run Fox said the deal will strengthen its position and create a group with a combined turnover forecast to be around £85m this year.

Managing director, Paul Fox, said: “This acquisition makes perfect sense for us.

“Blackledge is a well run business with great people and has a track record of providing excellent services to a wide range of clients in the local area. It also means that we get a welcome boost to the group’s existing fleet of quality vehicles and plant.”

Set up in the 1970s, Bamber Bridge-based Blackledge Plant Hire is a second generation, family-run business, with 40 machines and 14 trucks.

Paul Fox added: “Blackledge Plant Hire is a welcome addition to the Fox Group. It is a major part of our group’s continuing strategy of growth.”

Today’s (February 9) deal is one of several by the Fox Group, which was established in 1932, in a bid to increase its capacity and reach.

In 2020 it added Hurt (Plant Hire) to the group and in 2021, it welcomed JJ O’Grady as it continues to consolidate its position as one of the largest providers of haulage and plant hire services in Lancashire.

Following the latest deal the group now boasts a 230-strong wagon fleet and more than 440 items of plant and machinery. The headcount currently stands at more than 530 staff.

Fox Group was advised by Hill Dickinson and Blackledge Plant Hire by Farleys.
