Invest North 2022 to explore the current funding landscape and what more needs to be done

The North has been an increasingly-successful breeding ground for unicorns – privately-owned companies with a $1bn+ valuation.

But in order to create businesses such as these , the region needs to ensure its funding and investment ecosystem can support the start-ups and scale ups of today to fulfil their potential. As Invest North 2022 on 2 March  this theme will be explored in depth as attendees have the chance to hear first hand from growing businesses including one of the region’s newest unicorns, Matillion.

Funding and investment is one of the key pillars of this year’s Invest North conference, attendees – register here for your ticket – will hear from venture capitalist Jon Moulton, chairman of Better Capital, and hear how companies like XR Games, a fast-growing virtual reality games developer have successfully secured backing from regional funds and other investors over several funding rounds.

The sessions will also look at how a healthy funding eco-system is vital to give those companies with high-growth strategies the very best chance of maximising their potential. With one panel examining how the North is performing and how it can improve its support mechanisms for the region’s entrepreneurial leaders.

It’s clear that the to deliver upon the North’s potential will require a levelling-up of business funding, which remains disproportionately weighted to London and the South East, however the session will also hear how achieving the goal of realistic economic growth will also require businesses and entrepreneurs to think differently, be bolder and be ambitious!

Speakers for the Funding and Investment sessions which are sponsored by Campaigner, Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, and Influential include: Ed Thompson, CTO and Co-Founder of Matillion; Louise Chapman, investment director at Praetura Ventures; Bod Buckby the head of UK primary markets – North for the London Stock Exchange; Irene Graham OBE, CEO of the Scale Up Institute, and Ken Cooper, MD Venture Solutions at British Business Bank which oversees the NorthernPowerhouse Investment Fund.

Full details about the Funding sessions can be found here and tickets for the one virtual day conference can still be purchased via investnorth.uk.
