Demolition works to pave way for Gary Neville’s much anticipated St Michael’s scheme

Bowmer + Kirkland (B+K) has begun demolition works at the former Bootle Street Police Station, the site of the much anticipated St Michael’s development in Manchester city centre.

The mixed-use development is being delivered through a joint venture between Gary Neville’s Relentless and US investor KKR.

Phase one of the scheme, expected to complete and be ready for occupation in 2024, will deliver 185,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation across nine floors, a new public realm and a rooftop restaurant with views across Manchester.

It is thought the delivery of this phase will support around 1,800 jobs bringing £120m of investment into the city.

St Michael’s is the first real estate investment in Manchester from KKR, which formed a JV with Relentless last year to deliver the project.

Neville said: “The team has worked incredibly hard over a number of years to bring this project forward and this is a momentous day for all involved. We are really pleased to be working with B+K to deliver this transformational scheme that mirrors the ambitions of Manchester as a city.”

Bowmer + Kirkland NW regional director, Paul Sykes, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Relentless Developments to build the first phase of this high profile development in the heart of Manchester. Today is a major milestone and an important step on the road to increased jobs and investment in our city.”
