Typhoo Tea CEO stepping down after three years with Wirral company

The chief executive of Wirral-based Typhoo Tea is stepping down after three years with the company.

Des Kingsley is being replaced by Mike Brehme, Typhoo Tea’s current chairman, who steps into an exec chair role.

Mike, the co-founder and CEO of Clipper Teas for 27 years, first joined Typhoo Tea, based in Moreton, as a non-exec director on November 1, 2021.

Des said: “With the recovery of Typhoo Tea well under way, I have decided that now is the time for me to step down from my role as CEO.

“It has been a huge honour and privilege to have played a part in turning around the fortunes of one of Britain’s best loved tea brands.

“I would like to extend a huge thanks to the entire Typhoo team for helping us to achieve this.”

He added: “I know Typhoo is in good hands. Mike has already brought an incredible depth of knowledge and experience into the company, and now as part of the Typhoo team, we can ensure a smooth transition.”

Des is leaving the company in October 2022 to enjoy more time with his family, complete renovations in his Irish home and realise his dream to travel across the States, before moving on to non-executive roles.

Mike said: “The next two years will be defining for Typhoo Tea both in the UK and international markets. I am delighted to be taking on this new role and would like to thank for Des for his work so far.

“Typhoo Tea is an iconic brand and we have big plans in the pipeline to ensure it remains an integral part of what makes us a nation of tea lovers.”
