PRODUCTION company Made in Manchester has been commissioned by the BBC to make a radio programme examining the link between the island of Ibiza and British youth culture over the past 20 years.

PRODUCTION company Made in Manchester has been commissioned by the BBC to make a radio programme examining the link between the island of Ibiza and British youth culture over the past 20 years.

In a programme to be broadcast this weekend, criminologist and sociologist Dr Kate O’Brien looks at the Balearic attitude to nightlife and entertainment which was first adopted in Britain during the late 1980s.

Executive producer Ashley Byrne said: “The history of British dance culture and clubbing is complex and fascinating, and Kate explores its impact on young people’s identities and lifestyles since the late 1980s.”

Ibiza: Britain’s Balearic Soul is produced by the independent production company’s Russell Crewe and will air this Saturday morning (27th August 2011) from 10.30 on BBC Radio 4.

The Ibiza retrospective is the latest in a series of commissions for the BBC by Made in Manchester, including  the 3-part Barbara Windsor’s Funny Girls series for BBC Radio 2, a special documentary about the life and times of Louis Armstrong presented by Sir Michael Parkinson and Don’t Cry For Me, Maradona – a drama for 5Live about how Sir Bobby Robson coped with the so-called ‘hand of God’ goal in the 1986 World Cup.

SKV Communications has been retained by high end department store Selfridges to handle PR for its Exchange Square, Trafford Centre and Birmingham stores.

The Manchester-based agency will be focusing media attention on the opening of the new beauty hall at Exchange Square in the city centre.

Currently under construction, Selfridges’ beauty and accessories hall will officially launch in October on the lower ground floor.  Visitors will be greeted by a panoramic 360 degree view of the new area in the remodelled store as they enter via a glass atrium.

As part of the pre-launch campaign a mobile Selfridges photographic and make up studio has been created. Stationed in key locations in the city centre, it will host a series of makeovers of women who have been selected in a street casting to discover the new faces of Selfridges beauty for an Autumn billboard and taxi promotional campaign.

SKV’s Geraldine Vesey said: “The Selfridges offering is amazing – not a day goes by when there isn’t something new in the stores – whether it’s an exclusive brand, a pop up shop or a personal appearance from a celebrity visitor.  The launch of the new beauty hall is an amazing project to work on and the SKV team are delighted to be involved.”
