Housebuilder seals deal for 77-home Saddleworth site

Show homes at Saddleworth View

Housebuilder, Redrow Lancashire, has bought an eight-acre site in the village of Diggle, Saddleworth, which has full planning permission for up to 77 homes.

Situated off Huddersfield Road, the proposed development – to be named Broadstone Manor – will be split into two parcels which straddle the road leading to the new £27.5m state-of-the-art Saddleworth School, which opened in March this year.

The site acquisition represents a fifth in recent years for Redrow in Oldham, following successful completed schemes at Meadow View and Saddleworth View, both in Moorside and Fox Meadows in Chadderton and the recently launched Bishop Meadows in Cowlishaw.

Claire Jarvis, managing director for Redrow Lancashire, said: “We’re actively in the market to buy more land in Greater Manchester and the villages around Oldham have been very much on our radar, so we’re delighted to secure this excellent site in Diggle.

“Last year Saddleworth was named one of the best places to live in the North West by The Times and the areas and suburbs close by are much sought after, so we know to expect high demand from home buyers for quality, energy efficient, newly built homes.”

She added: “Broadstone Manor will be ideal for couples and families, close to local amenities and schools, including the brand new high school.”

Redrow is proposing to submit a detailed planning application for the semi-rural site later this year, which will include 10% affordable housing in line with the current planning permission. The home builder is also committed to offering local employment and training opportunities and protecting existing trees, hedgerows and waterside habitats on site. A public consultation is currently under way.
