Housing plans for former Police Station and Masonic Hall

A CGI of the proposed scheme

The former Sale Police Station and Masonic Hall could be transformed into 21 apartments, and 10 houses, under plans submitted to Trafford Borough Council.

Southway Housing Trust is behind the plan for the site on Tatton Road/Tatton Place.

The properties will be available for shared ownership through Gecko Homes, Southway’s sales and marketing subsidiary.

Gecko Homes has received strong public support for the scheme following a public consultation with the local community. Three quarters of respondents said that they were in favour of the scheme, with just five per cent objecting.

The scheme would see a sustainable residential development in the heart of Sale of 10 houses, including one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, and 21 apartments – nine two-beds and 11 one-beds – all available for shared ownership. The proposals include the refurbishment of the former Sale Police Station and replacement of the former Sale Masonic Hall with a three-storey residential development.

Wendy Mills, head of development at Southway Housing Trust, said: “We hope that Trafford Council recognise the improvements of the new scheme including the reduced building height and increased parking provision.

“The site will help to address the demand for affordable housing in Trafford, delivering an attractive residential development that is respectful to the local area and provides a real choice for aspiring homeowners to get onto the housing ladder.”

She added: “Gecko is pleased with the positive response to plans for Sale, in particular the high level of interest shown from potential buyers during the consultation process.”
