BOXPARK creating 150+ jobs in move to Liverpool’s Cains Brewery Village

Plans for BOXPARK Liverpool

BOXPARK, the Brighton-based dining, retail and leisure operator, is opening its first venue outside London at Liverpool’s Cains Brewery Village, creating more than 150 jobs.

The business has taken 21,000 sq ft at the site and plans to open up in 2023.

Cains Brewery Village, represented by North West independent law firm Brabners, has agreed a 15-year lease with BOXPARK at the space located in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle.

The site opened its gates in November 2015 and is a unique leisure destination centred around the iconic Grade II-listed Cains Brewery. The brewery was established in 1850 by Robert Cain and described by English Heritage as “one of the finest purpose-built breweries in Britain”.

BOXPARK will occupy a 16,000 sq ft indoor space holding room for 400 covers, 10 kitchen units and three internal bars. A 5,500 sq ft external terrace will provide a further 200 covers with additional external bars.

It expects the new scheme to deliver more than 150 jobs, while providing opportunities for local businesses and talent, including food operators, artists, creators and performers. The venue will add to its sites in Shoreditch, Croydon and Wembley.

Cains Brewery Village is an urban village underpinning the regeneration of the Baltic Triangle area. The mixed-use site has been granted planning permission for one million sq ft of development, which includes 750 homes, a 94-bedroom hotel and a sky bar.

The development is home to other occupiers including Cains Brewery, Bongo’s Bingo, Ghetto Golf, Punch Tarmey’s Irish Pub, ArCains, Baltic Market, Northern Lights and The Royal Standard Liverpool.

Harj Dusanj, managing director at Cains Brewery Village, said: “We are incredibly excited to be welcoming the first BOXPARK-branded venture outside London to Cains Brewery Village.

“BOXPARK shares our passion and enthusiasm to showcase the best independent street food businesses in the heart of Liverpool’s creative quarter. Within this new social destination expect greater live experiences and opportunities for sport and music fans to celebrate the not-to-be-missed moments at Cains Brewery Village.”

Usha Sharma, senior associate at Brabners, said: “This deal represents a major vote of confidence in Liverpool’s retail and hospitality sector, which has successfully attracted a nationally recognised operator to take a significant space in the city.

“Cains Brewery Village stands as an excellent case study in how landlords of industrial heritage estates can repurpose spaces to create thriving new destinations.”

Andy Delaney, director at Aspinall Verdi – Property Regeneration Consultants, agents for Cains Brewery Village, said: “As a long standing advisor on this outstanding site, I’m genuinely delighted that BOXPARK chose Cains as the location for its first branded BOXPARK outside of London.

“Its ground breaking pop-up mall in Shoreditch was one of the key inspirations behind the regeneration of the former brewery and I’m sure the two organisations will create something even more special at this unique location.”
