Jobs to be created as Poundland set to launch ‘supersize’ store

Poundland is putting the finishing touches to an extension at its Denton store in Greater Manchester that will make it one of its largest in the UK.

Planned to reopen just before Christmas, the new “supersize” store at Crown Point Shopping Park will open its doors on Saturday 10 December.

At more than 18,000 sq ft and spread over two floors, it is around three times the size of a typical Poundland store and will employ 55 full and part-time staff – including 20 new recruits.

It is the latest supersize store to open this year – following Nottingham (15,000 sq ft) and Stockton-on-Tees (19,000 sq ft) which opened in February.

Another supersize store is also opening on 10 December with a relocation at the Brotherhood Retail Park in Peterborough into a 18,000 sq ft store.

Poundland director of retail, Darren Kay, said: “We think customers are going to be wowed by the new look Denton store when it reopens. It’s going to be one of our flagship stores, offering customers a wide range at our amazing value that is more important than ever before.

“We’re very proud to be transforming this store into the best version of a Poundland. It’s another signal of our ambition to offer customers a real alternative to the big grocers.”
