£3m specialist care scheme under way in Stalybridge

Grosvenor Street scheme

Work is under way on a £3.2m specialist supported living scheme in Stalybridge which will provide 17 self-contained apartments.

The development by Great Places Housing, on Grosvenor Street, will deliver 24-hour on-site care commissioned by the Tameside Adult Social Care Team.

The plans will provide much-needed homes for adults within the local community needing health and wellbeing support to live independently.

The homes are being delivered in partnership with contractor, Pioneer Contracting, and funded in part by Homes England and Tameside Better Care Funding.

The project is the second supported living project Great Places is working on in the borough, alongside the £5.1m redevelopment of the former Stalybridge Police Station site into a similar supported living scheme.

Nick Gornall, director of development at Great Places, said: “Great Places is committed to working with the council to provide much-needed specialist homes in the local area, allowing residents to remain close to friends and family in accommodation which meets their support needs.”

Cllr John Taylor, Tameside’s executive member for adult social care, homelessness and inclusivity, said: “Supported living accommodation helps our residents lead a healthy and fulfilling life within their own home and community.

“Partnerships in housing developments such as this are crucial to meet current and future needs of residents.”

Work is due to be completed in June 2024.
